Testimonials

"Camp Shakespeare was amazing, we loved it! My son came home each day happy. He really enjoyed the games, the crafts, and of course the acting. I loved how they used all recycled materials and lots of creativity to build their own costumes and props. The kids' production was just amazing, so much talent and enthusiasm shown. We're so lucky we could be a part of it."
- Caitlin V.

"My daughter absolutely loved this camp! It was by far her favorite experience of the summer and she is already looking forward to next year. This was her first real exposure to drama and the world of Shakespeare and she is now hooked!"
- Ben F.

"Camp Shakespeare is the best camp experience in Davis! Where else can a child learn to appreciate great literature AND play capture the flag in an environment that looks like a fairy garden? I was extremely impressed with both the professionalism of the staff and the thought that went into the camp's daily activities. It is no exaggeration to say that I only saw smiling faces on Camp Shakespeare kids. My son loved the Shakespearean insult contest, crafting his own costume for the final performance, and the many new varieties of tag he learned. As a parent, I got a big kick out of the raging debate among the younger campers as to whether the fellow who visited the camp every day in Elizabethan garb was actually Shakespeare, or merely the director of the camp in fancy clothes. If that isn't an example of the magic of theater, I don't know what is!"
- Stacia L.

"The staff of Camp Shakespeare did a great job at making Shakespeare accessible for the kids – they really seemed to get immersed in it. One of my daughter's favorite activities was the sculpture activity – we also thought that was ingenious too – a clever way to get the kids to really understand what was happening in a particular scene and how they were going to act it out. My daughter said it was one of her favorite camps this summer!"
- Rachel R.

"Camp Shakespeare was the highlight of our two daughters' summer! They especially loved the Shakespearean insults, the various acting exercises, the dancing, creating the costumes, and of course the final production of The Tempest. The setting for the camp was beautiful and the counselors are not only remarkably talented people but warm and encouraging too!"
- Malia M.

"Our children spent two weeks this summer having the time of their lives at Camp Shakespeare under the able guidance of Rob Salas and Gia Battista in the beautiful surroundings of the UC Davis Arboretum. They learned to appreciate Shakespeare's wit and influence on our culture, and had a great time learning acting skills and developing their own confidence to learn and create. The Davis Shakespeare Ensemble and Camp Shakespeare are a gift to Davis."
- Madhavi S.

"I wanted you to know that my daughter and I were chatting one day after camp, and out popped this gem from her mouth: "I can't imagine what life would be like without Shakespeare!" What a gift you've given my daughter – she had a great time in camp and learned so much!"
